My family is a hunting family so obviously we were excited when we found out that my dad got an elk tag. I was a little upset because I only have a few more years till I can put in for the youth tag. Anyway we found out he got the tag in June and spent all summer preparing for the hunt in September I turned 12 in the summer. We were so excited I am fairly sure we watched over 100 elk skinning videos. Finally it was time for us to go scouting i was so excited i didn’t even care that we had to get up at 4 am and had to sit it in the car for about 4 hours just to walk around a few hours and drive back home the same day we explored (If you’ve ever been in the mountains you know how steep the cliffs are one wrong step and you most likely have a few broken bones or worse) a few spots and found one good one the only problem was that it was strait up a mountain. We decided that we would hunt there but we scouted a few more spots then got taco bell and then we drove home it was almost midnight by the time we got home. I think we were all so excited we didn’t sleep for the week we were at home. Finally it was time it was Thursday 4 am I think we packed all of are stuff and hit the road we couldn’t hunt till Friday but we wanted to have a day to relax so we rested Thursday. So its Friday morning around 3 am witch was 2 am back home so we were all excited we were on the way to the Mountain we had to leave so early because the sun rose around 5:30 we were riding the 4-wheeler when we hit a rough patch and next thing i know the 4-wheeler flipped. But that didn’t stop us we picked up are stuff and walked from there(we left the 4-wheeler there though) Friday was pretty uneventful we didn’t see anything ,so we packed up are stuff and headed down the mountain by the time we picked up some food and got back to are  airBnB it was almost 7 pm so we ate took showers said good night and went to bed . The next day wasn’t as eventful so I am not gonna tell y’all about it. It wasn’t till Sunday night that any thing  happened we were on the way back and all of a sudden heard a noise so we pulled over and apparently one of the tires on the trailer blew out.(we had the trailer because of the 4-wheeler)It was too late to get it fixed. there were only 3 of us so Boyd(family friend/amazing hunter/hunting guide)stayed home and got the tire fixed, so me and dad got to spend the day together I’ve tried to spend as much time as I possibly can with my dad ever since my grandpa passed so getting to spend the day with dad was honestly my favorite part of the whole trip. We saw heard a couple if turkeys but we didn’t see anything so we went back to the airBnB and ate(interesting fact we 63 sandwiches throughout the whole trip) Tuesday we didn’t see anything but we did hear the most annoying rooster ever, if we would have seen it most likely we would have shoot it. we drove back  to the airBnB ate showered and went to bed like usual. Wednesday we got up and got ready like usual we were all tired we got to the mountain and climbed we had gotten pretty good at climbing the mountain so now it only took us 30 minutes instead of a hour we saw a couple of dear but no elk by noon we were all tired and wanted to see are family so we packed up camp and drove home. That is my elk story.
